Hummingbird's Flight

Finally a new drawing...a touch of summer on this winter's day...dreaming of hummingbirds - This little ruby-throated humming bird is drawn with Prismacolor pencils on art board treated with Color-Fix then touched with a bit of turpentine to "melt" the color pencil. "Hummingbird's Flight" is 5x5 inches.

Here's another ACEO...Graphite and Micron pen on Stonehenge paper, 2.5x3.5 inches. I'm enjoying this technique of combining the graphite with the Micron pens...I think it give the piece a soft look. Need to think of a Name for this one....

Owl Lover

Tangled Christmas Ornaments

Ho Ho Ho....Tangled Christmas Ornaments...did these on little wooded forms I picked up at Micheal's - painted them white and then tangled with Micron Pens - used glitter pens for the color - scan does not show how sparkly they are. I'm going to tie them to my little bags of cookies I give out.

Note: I sprayed them very lighty with a glossy have to be careful as too much will run the color glitter pen, the black microns handled the fixative just fine. Several light coats should do it. I also brushed one with Mod Podge (after a light coat of fixative) which gave it a nice smooth feel.

The Gift

"The Gift" This little yule fairy is making a gift of her heart, wishing love and joy to all.

2.5x3.5 inches, Micron Archival Ink, Prismacolor and Glitter pens on Stonehenge paper. It's hard to tell from the scan, but I've used glitter pens in some areas to add a bit of sparkley magic.

"Blodeuwedd" (Welsh name from blodeu 'flowers, blossoms' + gwedd 'face, aspect, appearance': "flower face")
2.5x3.5 inches, Micron Archival Ink, Prismacolor and Glitter pens on Stonehenge paper. It's hard to tell from the scan, but I've used glitter pens in some areas to add a bit of sparkley magic.

Love my always calls to me. Here's my newest ACEO, Need a name for this one...she's a Yule something in that realm would do nicely. I'm also toying with adding a little bit of tinted graphite ( red and green ) in the holly and berries and maybe a little bit of glitter on the snow flakes....opinions please!

Adara (Welch name meaning 'catches birds' ) ACEO, 2.5 x 3.5 inches - graphite on Bristol Board. As much as I love creating the ZIA's pencil is my first love and always calls me back :)

Back To Basics

Back to Basics....didn't have any ZIAs ready to tangle, so decided to create a few basic tangles on Zentangle Tiles, 3.5 x 3.5. I used a bit of tinted graphite as well as regular graphite on the shading.

Mischief Managed: Tangled & Untangles

I drew the graphite version first and then did a "tangled" version. Most of the time I do a graphite version first in order to get the lines right - especially the placement of the eyes. Ink is so unforgiving, no going back from mistakes.

Both of these pieces are ACEO size (2.5 x 3.5 inches) The graphite version is on Strathmore 300 Smooth Bristol board and the "Tangled" version is drawn on Stonehenge paper with Micron pen, Prismacolor and tinted graphite. It's hard to tell from the scan, but she also has a little bit of glitter here and there ;o)

Love Spells

These two sweeties are looking up spells....can you guess what kind?

Both are ACEO size (2.5 x 3.5 inches ) and are created with micron pen and prismacolor pencil on Stonehenge paper.

New ACEO Fairy "Tangle" & her Dragon Friend

I'm having so much fun "tangling" these Fantasy Art Trading Cards...this new one is based on an older graphite drawing I did last year...same basic pose, but the tangling takes a path of it's own, so the piece actually looks very different from my original drawing.

ACEO - 2.5 x 3.5 inches, ink and Prismacolor pencil on Stonehenge paper

Tangle Moon

It's been raining off and on today...made a trip to Newport with hubby for shopping and coffee and then finished this one. ACEO, ink, prismacolor and tinted graphite on Stonehenge paper

Blue Kitty

It's a rainy morning here in the North East....good for staying indoors and getting some tangling done...or at least some coloring of the tangles I've done over the past couple of weeks. "Blue Kitty" is done with ink and Prismacolor pencils on a 3.5 x 3.5 inch Zentangle Tile.

I really must do my own "Tangled" background for this blog...stay tuned

Fairy & Owl ZIA - Art Trading Card

Got a chance to finish 'coloring' this one yesterday you can see, she's based on the same pose as my last ACEO below. Sometimes when I do a drawing it inspires me to do a "tangled" version of the same pose. One thing always leads to another :o)
Currently, I've got several more Fairy-Tangles done waiting their turn for some color. The coloring always takes much longer than the tangling part....maybe because the tangling part is so very Zen and the coloring part involves more thinking :o)
Art Card size, Ink, Prismacolor pencil on Stonehenge paper. Hope you enjoy her.

Summer Dreams - ACEO

Very Excited...did a photo shoot with a beautiful young woman who dressed up as a witch - came complete with spell book and candle. Can't wait to do some drawing from the shots!

New Fairy "Tangle" Art Card

Tangled this out the other night and got a chance to add the color this afternoon.
Fairy Dragon "Tangle"
2.5 x 3.5 Inches
Ink, Prismacolor pencil, tinted graphite on Stonehenge paper.

I just love Stonehenge take the ink very well and also allows for lots of layering with the color pencil. This paper had a little tint of purple/gray to it instead of the cream and white I usually use.

Thursday, August 4, 2011

I originally did this pose as a ZIA and then found myself doing it in color pencil. The ZIA version can be seen under the Zentangle tab above.
